Chennai: Scare on Indigo flight as passenger tries to open emergency door

An Indigo flight bound for West Bengal was delayed in Chennai for over an hour after a 27-year-old man identified as Sarkar accidentally attempted to open the emergency exit door. The incident took place on Sunday, June 27 at around 1.30 pm. The flight was scheduled to depart to Durgapur from the Chennai International Airport.

However, before the take off the emergency alarms were triggered leading to panic among the passengers onboard. The staff identified that the alarms were triggered due to the tampering of the emergency door. The aircraft was carrying 158 passengers and six aircrew members.

Sarkar, a research scholar from IIT Madras reportedly tried to open the emergency door, according to a report by DT Next. Though he claimed innocence and said that the action was inadvertent, the crew were not satisfied with his response following which he was deboarded from the plane and handed over to the airport police. 

The police later let him off with a warning. 

The flight took off later at 2.20 pm after a thorough security sweep in the aircraft.
