Actor Srikanth was taken into custody by Nungambakkam police, on Monday, June 23, after investigations uncovered his alleged involvement in a drug network connected to a former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) member, who was earlier arrested following a violent bar fight.
According to a report by Sun News, nine people, including Prasad and Ajay Vandayar, two former AIADMK members, were arrested in connection with a fight at a bar in Nungambakkam. During the investigation, police uncovered evidence of drug involvement.
Further inquiry led to the arrest of Pradeep Kumar, an alleged drug supplier, and another individual named John, who were found with 11 grams of cocaine. The drugs were reportedly trafficked from Africa through Bangalore, the report states.
During interrogation, Pradeep Kumar implicated actor Srikanth, known for his role in Tamil film Roja Kootam. Pradeep claimed he supplied drugs to Prasad over 40 times, earning more than Rs 5 lakhs in the process. Prasad, a former AIADMK IT wing member, is said to have supplied drugs, including cocaine, to Srikanth.
Following these revelations, actor Srikanth was summoned for questioning on the morning of Monday, June 23. His blood was tested for drugs at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The actor was subsequently arrested by the Nungambakkam F3 police and remanded to judicial custody. The interrogation was conducted by the Chennai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU).
According to the report, Prasad alleged that Srikanth purchased one gram of cocaine for Rs 12,000 and used drugs at private parties and clubs in Chennai.
