Mounting an attack on actor Kamal Haasan for saying that Hindu terrorism exists, right wingers including members of the BJP and RSS have lashed out at the actor. In fact, BJP leader Vinay Katiyar went so far as to call the actor ‘mentally unstable’.

According to India Today, Vinay Katiyar said, "His mental state is unstable. He should be getting treated in a hospital. Politics of such defamatory nature is not okay. He doesn't have any proof." Katiyar also said that the Tamil Nadu BJP will look into filing a defamation case against the actor.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy meanwhile said that the actor was engaging in ‘low level politics’. Speaking to the Republic TV, Swamy said that Kamal doesn’t have any substance to back his claims. Calling the actor a ‘propagandist for the communists’, he said that the actor is acting according to the script given to him by communists.

Swamy said, “If he has something which he can’t share with the media then he should call up the NIA (National Investigation Agency) and give it to them, because these are all actionable information. If it is a genuine information, which he hasn’t made it... He should hand it over to the NIA, but he hasn’t done that.” (sic)

Seeking apology from the actor for stating terror has spread into the Hindu camp,RSS vicharak (thinker) and professor from Delhi University Rakesh Sinha speculated that the actor is giving the Hindu terror narrative to save the PFI (Popular Front of India) organisation in Kerala.

BJP MLA Raja Singh from Hyderabad, too, joined in condemning the actor for his allegations. The Goshamahal MLA took to Twitter and said, “Actor Kamal Haasan is speaking about “Hindu Terror” but is silent on real “Ïslamic Terror” which turned the whole world into Hell.”

Kamal Haasan on Thursday kicked up a row through his article, which he written in Tamil magazine Ananda Vikatan.

The article in response to Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan’s question who asked the actor, “In recent times, communalism and backwardness have set foot into Tamil Nadu. The slow growth of Hindutva powers is weakening the Dravidian tradition.”

The actor wrote, “Earlier, the Hindu right would not personally indulge in violence, but instead through their debates they would incite their opponents to violence. But once this tactic failed, they started using muscle power instead of dialogue. They too have started using violence. They can no longer challenge saying 'Can you show me a Hindu Terrorist?'”

He further went on say, “Terrorism has spread to that extent in their camp. This terrorism is neither a win nor progress for those who call themselves Hindus.”
