
Gnanasekaran, the accused in the Anna University sexual assault case will be trialed in Mahila court, Allikulam, Chennai. The Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet ordered the case to be transferred on Tuesday, February 25, after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case submitted a chargesheet.
The charge sheet along with electronic evidence, CCTV footage, Gnanasekaran’s statement, documents seized from his house, his mobile phone which he allegedly used to record the sexual assault, and witness statements were submitted before Justice Subramaniam by the SIT on Monday. The court accepted the chargesheet and ordered the transfer.
On December 23, 2024, Gnanasekaran, a history-sheeter and road-side biryani vendor from Kotturpuram, allegedly sexually assaulted a student inside the Anna University campus and threatened her by recording videos of the assault.
He was arrested by the Greater Chennai Police (GCP) on December 25 and was later booked under the Goondas Act (Tamil Nadu Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Forest Offenders, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum Grabbers, and Video Pirates Act, 1982).
The Madras HC, on December 28, ordered for the case to be probed by an SIT. The SIT formed comprises IPS officers Bhukya Sneha Priya (Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar), Ayman Jamal (DCP, Law and Order, Avadi), and S Brinda (DCP, Salem City - North).
