Kerala police have arrested a woman following the death of a 38-year-old man due to poisoning on Thursday, July 31. The deceased has been identified as Ansil, a native of Kothamangalam in Kerala’s Ernakulam. The woman was arrested after a complaint by Ansil’s relative, alleging that she had poisoned Ansil. According to reports, Ansil had ingested a lethal herbicide, which led to his death.

Kothamangalam Police initially registered a First Information Report (FIR) based on the complaint filed by Ansil’s relative. The FIR charged the woman, a native of Chelad, under section 109 (attempt to murder), and it was later changed to murder.

According to the FIR, the woman allegedly invited him to her house on July 30 and served him poison. Media reports said the woman was a friend of Ansil but had registered an assault complaint against him earlier. However, later she withdrew the complaint. Ansil is married and has two children.

After the incident, Ansil was initially taken to a Taluk hospital and later to a private hospital in Aluva after developing uneasiness and vomiting. He died on the night of July 31. According to the FIR, Ansil informed about the incident to his relative who lodged a complaint with the Kothamangalam police.

The postmortem examination conducted at the Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam, confirmed that the death was due to poisoning.
