

Three members of a family were killed and one was seriously injured following a dispute with neighbour in Kerala’s Chendamangalam on Thursday, January 16. The accused Rithu Jayan (28), a neighbour of the family beat them with a motorcycle stump on Thursday evening. The police took him to custody on the same day.
The deceased have been identified as Venu (65), Usha(62) and Vineesha (32). Jithin (35), who was seriously injured in the attack has been admitted to the Parvur Taluk hospital.
Venu resides at Chendamangalam with his wife Usha, daughter Vineesh and son-in-law Vineesh. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Rithu trespassed Venu’s house intending to murder due to enmity.
Rithu assaulted them with a motorcycle stump and then stabbed them with a knife. According to reports, during this incident, two children of Vineesha and Jithin were also present there, however, they managed to escape.
After the incident the neighbours rushed them to the hospital, where Venu, Usha and Vineesha succumbed to injuries.
According to Sreejith VU, Vice President of the Chendamangalam Grama Panchayat, Rithu is a habitual troublemaker in the locality and he previously caused problems at Venu’s house. “He doesn’t need any specific reason to create trouble. Previously he has even caused issues in another family when their cat entered his house. Two, three months ago, he created some issues in Venu’s house as well,” Sreejith told TNM.
Speaking to the media, Rithu’s neighbour alleges that he was a drug addict and regularly got into trouble with the neighbours. According to reports, Rithu had cases against him on charges of bike theft, clash and stalking.
Currently the Vadakkekara Police, has been booked Rithu under different sections of Bharatiya Nayay Sanhitha, including 332(a) (House-trespass to commit an offence), 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons),109 (attempt to murder), and 103(1) (murder). The evidence collection from Venu’s house with Rithu will be conducted today.
Their mortal remains of Venu, Usha and Vineesha are currently at the Paravur Taluk Hospital and after the inquest procedure, bodies will be taken to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
