A 28-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her father in Omanappuzha in Alappuzha district of Kerala on Tuesday, July 1. The deceased was identified as Angel Jasmin, a lab technician working at Alapppuzha Providence Hospital. The police have arrested her 58-year-old father Francis (Josemon) over the incident. They have also taken her mother Jessi Mol (Sindhu) and uncle Aloshius into custody over the incident.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 11pm on Tuesday after Angel’s parents had an argument with her over the habit of frequently going out from the house during night and returning late. Mannacherry Circle Inspector (CI) told the media that such arguments were frequent in the house. “However, on Tuesday, the verbal argument escalated to a physical altercation, and the father killed her by strangulation using a bath towel. Her mother assisted in the crime,” he said.
Angel was married three years ago, however, her marriage was a failure. After separating from her husband, she has been staying with her parents.
Following Angel’s death, the family informed her uncle Aloshious, and they decided not to inform anyone that night. On Wednesday morning, the family informed the ward member and the neighbours about the death and told them they suspect that the sudden demise was caused by a heart attack. Police said Angel’s uncle informed them about her death on Wednesday morning..
Police initially registered an First Information Report (FIR) under Section 194 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (unnatural death).
The body of Angel was first taken to the Chettikad Taluk Hospital and during the examination, the doctors found marks on her neck and informed the police. During the questioning, Francis confessed that he committed the crime. Her body was later shifted to Vandanam Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
