The Ernakulam Central Police on Wednesday, June 4,  have filed a chargesheet against Kerala businessman Boby Chemmanur, accusing him of making sexually coloured remarks against woman actor Honey Rose on social media and during a public event.

The charges, which follow a complaint filed by the actor in January this year, include non-bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act. The police have charged Chemmanur under Section 75(4) of the BNS for sexual harassment through sexually coloured remarks, and Section 67 of the IT Act for transmitting obscene material online. He is expected to be produced before the court.

The chargesheet, submitted to the Ernakulam Magistrate Court, draws from digital evidence provided by Honey Rose, including video clips of interviews and her confidential statement. Investigators also documented instances of Chemmanur allegedly making offensive comments against several individuals on social media.

The complaint was filed by the actor in person at the Ernakulam Central station on January 7, 2025. She alleged that Chemmanur made sexually loaded comments both online and while attending an inaugural event. He was arrested the following day from Wayanad.

This is the second case registered by the Central Police based on complaints from the actor. In an earlier complaint, she had named 30 individuals who allegedly posted sexually explicit comments under one of her social media posts.

In an interview to TNM in January this year, the actor opened up about the abuse and trolling she faced online due to Chemmanur’s vile comments and the importance of speaking out against an impressionable celebrity such as Boby Chemmanur with a widespread online following, majority of whom are men of all ages. “He has money, but we have laws and a strong police force. No matter what the outcome of the case, I believe that voicing my concerns was a good thing”, she said.
