The Karnataka government has issued the final land acquisition notification for 1,895 acres in Kanchugaranahalli and Byramangala villages of Bidadi Hobli in Ramanagara taluk for the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT).
The October 30 notification identifies 3,271 landowners whose compensation will be determined under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, 2013. Landowners can also opt for developed sites in lieu of monetary compensation.
The Greater Bengaluru Development Authority (GBDA), which is implementing the project, plans to develop the township under a ‘work-live-play’ model. The proposed township is planned across villages between Bidadi and Harohalli in Bengaluru South district. It has faced sustained opposition from farmers and local residents for over a year, who fear losing agricultural land and their livelihoods.
Earlier in August, the state government constituted a four-member committee headed by Justice Guhanathan Narendar to examine the differing views on the Bidadi Township project. The committee was tasked with examining the project’s legal, humanitarian, and developmental aspects and submitting its recommendations to the government.
Farmers in the affected villages said they would continue opposing the acquisition. Nagaraj MR of the Byramangala and Kanchugaranahalli Farmers’ Land Rights Protection Association said the final notification was issued even before a government-appointed review committee submitted its report. Nagaraj also alleged that farmers were threatened with litigation and pressured to accept compensation and give up their land.
The township proposal received Cabinet approval in January 2025, following which the GBDA issued a preliminary land acquisition notification in March 2025, proposing to acquire 7,481 acres across nine villages. In May 2026, the Cabinet approved a revised proposal covering the same extent.
The first final notification, issued in June 2026, covered 499 acres in Kempayyanapalya, Mandalahalli, and Vaderahalli villages. A second notification, issued on July 15, covered over 4,941 acres in four villages.
With the latest notification covering 1,895 acres, the total land covered by final acquisition notifications stands at over 7,335 acres.
