In a what is a stark reminder to the Swathi murder case, a man attacked a woman with a knife for rejecting his advance on Thursday at Koyambedu bus terminus in Chennai.

The woman, N Sivaranjani, (25), came to Koyambedu bus terminus to catch a bus to her hometown in Thanjavur district. The accused, Aravind Kumar, (32), allegedly had an argument with the woman and later slashed her face with a knife. The incident happened around 8:30pm.

After injuring the woman, Aravind Kumar tried to escape but was caught by the bystanders and police personnel. Sivaranjani was rushed to a private hospital and was discharged in few hours with minor injuries.

Six months ago, both of them were working at a tourism company and Aravind had proposed to Sivaranjani, but she rejected the proposal. She had also changed her job and was working in another company in Anna Nagar.

Police have filed a complaint against Aravind and he has been sent to judicial custody for 15 days.
