Online home services provider UrbanClap has become the Furniture Assembly Service partner for the world’s largest furniture retailer IKEA in Hyderabad. IKEA will be opening its first store of about 400,000 square feet in Hyderabad’s Hi-tech city this summer.

Swedish home furnishing retailer IKEA is known for its Do it yourself (DIY) concept where it sells its furniture flat packed following which buyers will have to assemble it themselves.

As part of this collaboration, consumers purchasing a select range of IKEA furniture from the store will be able to book furniture assembly services via the UrbanClap app or website. IKEA will contribute in the training of the carpenters on UrbanClap’s platform, thereby, upskilling them to become professional IKEA assemblers. The experienced and trained professional will reach the required location in around 90 minutes, helping customers assemble their new furniture.

“IKEA is an extremely prominent global brand, and has been the world’s largest furniture retailer since 75 years! The company’s belief in UrbanClap as a partner is a source of pride for us, and a boost to India’s entire startup ecosystem. The partnership is a result of the mutual objective of the two brands to keep customer experience and efficiency at the centre of everything,” Varun Khaitan, Co-founder, UrbanClap, said in a statement.

UrbanClap will use automated hyperlocal matchmaking to identify the best service professionals in a 5-7 km radius and will provide 30-day service guarantee and insurance against damages.

“DIY or Do it yourself is still a new concept in India and we will invest heavily to provide affordable and quality services. We are happy to partner with UrbanClap, India’s largest home services platform wherein trained carpenters in Hyderabad will assemble furniture for IKEA customers’ at their homes. The IKEA trained carpenters will be listed on the UrbanClap platform and customers will be able to order their services. This is a win-win situation both in terms of strengthening our business offer as well as engaging local community to be part of the IKEA business To further strengthen our services offer, IKEA will also have an in-house team of 150 assemblers, out of which today 75 are women in line with our commitment to have 50% women co-workers at all levels in IKEA India,” Patrik Antoni, Deputy Country Manager, IKEA India said.
