A two-year-old boy was found dead near Vaniyambadi in Vellore on Monday under suspicious circumstances.

Following this, relatives of the boy damaged the house of a godman who lived nearby, the next day, suspecting that he had performed a human sacrifice on the boy.

The boy’s body was found inside the water sump at the godman’s house.

The New Indian Express reported that the boy’s parents, Murugan and his wife, left their son Harikesh at his uncle’s house in Nimmiympattu village before leaving for work. Both of them work as daily wage labourers.

The godman, Ravi, (40) is said to be a neighbour of Harikesh’s uncle.

He was growing a tortoise inside a five-foot water tank in his house.

On Monday evening, Harikesh was playing in front of his house when he went missing.

At midnight, the child’s body was found floating in Ravi’s water tank.

The child’s body was taken out and last rites were conducted.

By Tuesday, there were rumours that that the godman could have killed the boy for human sacrifice as there was a lunar eclipse the previous day.

After this, the relatives of the boy ransacked the house of the godman and also killed the tortoise.

A case was registered at Alagayam police and three people have been detained by the police.

However, police could not confirm if it was a human sacrifice and also could not ascertain the reason as the body was cremated without informing them, reported TNIE.

In March, a 10-year-old girl became the victim of a human sacrifice ritual in Bengaluru.

She was murdered by her own uncle, who was advised by an occultist that ‘sacrificing’ the girl would cure his paralysed brother.
