1. A petty fight in an engineering college hostel turned fatal, after a 21 year-old student wasstabbed by his roommate for not cleaning the room they shared. Final year students of NGP Institute of Technology, Peelamedu, Santhosh and Dinesh began exchanging blows, after which Dinesh received fatal injuries. 2.The Madras HC has stayed criminal defamation proceedings against actor Dhanush after a complaint was filed stating a derogatory indication to advocates in the movie Kakka Muttai. Earlier, Dhanush and others, had contended that complaints like these could not be used to intimidate artistes. 3. Dr. Suniti Solomon, the doctor who first detected the case of HIV in India in 1986, passed away in Chennai on Tuesday. Then a teacher of microbiology at the Madras Medical College, she and her student were able to identify six people with HIGV. She was 74. 4. As a mark of respect over the death of former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, TN CM Jayalalithaa has cleared all the week of all party events. A seven-day morning was announced, and all programmes of the AIADMK were postponed. 5. Ongoing strikes by two NLC trade unions have been declared illegal. The Madras High Court has warned those participating on charges of contempt. The court has also given orders to begin with disciplinary action against those participating in the strike. 6. Interim compensation has been provided to 14 patients infected with Hepatitis C.
