The News Minute | November 17, 2014 | 10:02 am ISTA top Corporation of Chennai has been moved out of office three days after he named and fined nine contractors for doing improper road work in the city. Corporation works department joint commissioner Dr. Vijay Pingale had named nine contractors for poorly laid roads, and imposed a fine on them, reported Times of India. The MBBS graduate, an IAS officer of the 2004 batch, has been known for doing notable work in the road quality sector and his revelation of the contractor’s names has not gone down well. The contractor lobby is responsible for the transfer of Pingale out of the office, said officials according to the report. According to officials, Pingale was an important reason for limiting waterlogging in the city after rains saying that the transfer would affect other projects in the city apart from making contractors accountable for their work, said the report. Poor quality material used to lay roads, along with bribes given to councilors at atleast 10 percent the price of the project and corruption in different forms have left a lasting impression on the city with the bad condition of its roads. Joint commissioner of land administration K S Kandasamy is set to take over from Pingale, said the report.
