Ten days after murdered Infosys techie Swathi’s father filed a complaint asking to ban the movie based on Swathi murder case, the Cyber Crime Branch has registered an FIR against the director of the movie.

Titled 'Swathi Kolai Vazhakku' , the trailer of the film was released recently and uses real names of people involved in the case - from the victim, Swathi, to Ramkumar, her alleged stalker and murderer.

Swathi’s father K Santhanagopalakrishnan had filed a complaint with the Director General of Police on May 31, two days after the trailer of the movie was released. The complaint was forwarded to the Commissioner of Police and after enquiry, an FIR has been registered against the director and producer of the movie, Ramesh Selvan.

The letter submitted to the DGP by Swathi’s father had stated that no one took consent from Swathi’s family for making the movie. "We are unable to gauge the intention of producing such a movie, as the facts can be twisted particularly about my daughter. Since the case is sub-judice, production of such a film is not fair and illegal," the complaint reads.

Director Ramesh Selvan in an interview to The Times of India had said that he did not acquire any permission from Swathi’s and Ramkumar’s parents before filming the movie. He said that he had shot the movie at the railway station where the incident happened and the mansion where Ramkumar stayed. He also added that he will screen the movie for the parents before releasing it.

Arya and Mano from the theatre group Koothu-p-pattarai are essaying the roles of Swathi and Ramkumar respectively.

In the case, Swathi, an IT employee was hacked to death at the Nungambakkam police station on June 24, 2016. Ramkumar was accused of murdering her and also stalking her for days before the murder. He allegedly committed suicide in prison by biting a live electric wire last year.
