The Tamil Nadu State Board Plus 2 results were announced at 9.30 am on Wednesday. The exams were conducted from March 1 to April 6, 2018.

Ahead of the results, Tamil Nadu Education Minister Sengottaiyan announced that the pass percentage has come down by one percent this year, from 92.1% to 91.1%. Close to 8.66 lakh students appeared for the state board examination this year.

This year, too, Virudhunagar (97%), Erode (96.3%), and Tiruppur (96.1%) have trumped other districts in the state to stay on top with the highest pass percentage. Vizhupuram came last at 83.35%.

With an overall drop in pass percentage, 94.1% girl students have passed their twelfth board exams this year which is 0.4% less than last year’s pass percentage of 94.5%. From 89.3% pass percentage among boys last year, the number has come down to 87.7% this year.

Last year, in what was perceived as a first for the state, the education minister declared that the first three ranks will not be announced to avoid unnecessary pressure to perform on students. The decision to scrap the announcement of ranks was met with mixed reactions from educationists.

This year, of the 6754 schools that took part in the exams, 1907 schools reported 100% pass percentage. Of this, 238 are government schools. Minister Sengottaiyan also announced that on June 25, students who have failed will be allowed to take up their exams again.

“All students will receive their results by 2 pm via SMS. Even if they’ve failed the exams the students can reappear for their exams on June 25 and join colleges on time along with the other students,” he said in an interview.
