The Tamil Nadu State board results for Class 12 examinations have been declared and the total pass percentage is 92.1%, a marginal increase of 0.7% from last year.

A total of 8.93 lakh students have written the board exams this year and 1,183 schools in the state have recorded a 100% pass percentage. Of this, 292 schools are government institutions.

With 97.85%, Virudhunagar district recorded the highest pass percentage. This was followed by Ramanathapuram, Erode, Thoothukudi, Sivagangai and Tirupur.

The trend of female students outperforming male students continued this year as well, with girls recording a 94.5% pass percentage while amongst boys it is 89.3%. Last year too, girls outdid boys with over 95% pass percentage. In fact, the number of male students who have cleared all exams has come down in 2017 from 90.36% last year.

1171 students have received over 98% in the exams while over 12,000 students have gotten between 95% and 98%. 14,000 students have received between 93% and 95%  and 17,750 have gotten between 90% and 93%.

The state government had on Thursday announced that it would not declare the top three ranks in the examination in an effort to ensure students don't undergo distress over losing one mark or two marks.

Details of the number of centums scored in each subject was, however, released. Like last year, no student managed to bag a centum in any of the languages.
