In a tragic incident, Shubham Goel, son of senior IAS officer Shashank Goel, was shot dead in Turkey, reportedly by a group of armed robbers, while he was on vacation with his friend.

The incident reportedly took place in Istanbul on May 24, when Shubham, a software engineer based in the United States of America, was on a holiday with his friend, identified as Sudhanshu.

The two friends were confronted by a group of armed robbers who demanded money. While Sudhanshu reportedly handed over his money, Shubham refused, following which they were attacked and the latter was shot.

According to media reports, the robbers also beat up the duo before shooting Shubham.

“While one of his friends parted with some dollars, Shubham resisted and refused to give money. That made the gangsters angry, and they thrashed him and shot him dead,” a family member told reporters.

Reports add that Shubham’s mortal remains were brought to New Delhi and later taken to Roorkee in Uttarakhand, where the last rites were performed.

Shashank Goel is presently serving as the principal secretary (labour) to the Telangana government and rushed to New Delhi on learning of his son's death. He also spoke to officials of the Ministry of External Affairs, who assisted him in transporting the body back to India.

Reports also state that Shubham had last visited India to attend a wedding on April 28. He and his friend decided to visit Istanbul before a scheduled return to California, where the deceased worked.

A graduate from Amity University in Noida, Shubham was working as a Deputy Manager at the Federal Bank of America.

This comes days after another senior figure in Telangana lost his young son to a tragic incident.

Former Union Minister and BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya's son, Vaishnav, died of massive heart attack as he collapsed while eating dinner with the family.

Vaishnav, a third-year medical student, was only 21 years old.
