In a tragic incident, former Union Minister and BJP MP Bandaru Dattatreya's son, Vaishnav, died of massive heart attack on Wednesday.

Vaishnav, a third-year medical student, was only 21 years old.

According to reports, Vaishnav was eating dinner with his family at their residence in Ramnagar, when he suddenly collapsed at the table.

He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city for treatment. However, despite the efforts of doctors, he was declared dead a little past midnight.

Vaishnav was an MBBS student at the Medicity Medical College in Hyderabad and had earlier studied at the Sri Chaitanya Junior College and Vidyaranya High School.

On learning of Vaishnav's demise, Hyderabad Mayor Bonthu Rammohan also reached the hospital late at night. His visit was followed by that of several state BJP leaders including Telangana BJP President Dr K Laxman.

The last rites for Vaishnav are expected to be held today in Hyderabad. Several workers and leaders of the party have been visiting the Dattatreya's Ramnagar residence.

Dattatreya was Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Labour and Employment and is a Member of Parliament (MP) from Secunderabad.

Many took to social media to extend their condolences to the MP.

"My heart is filled with sorrow upon hearing the news about Bandaru Vaishnav, son of Dattatreya ji, passing. My most sincere condolences go out to Dattatreya ji and his family," Dr K Laxman tweeted.

Taking to Twitter, BJP spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao said, "Shocked at the untimely and unfortunate death of Vaishnav, son of my senior party colleague Bandaru Dattatreya with a heart stroke late last night. It's shocking that such a young man's life ended so abruptly. May his soul rest in peace."

Bandaru Dattatreya was one among the six ministers dropped by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his council of ministers in a reshuffle in September last year.

Others who were dropped were Kalraj Mishra, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Sanjiv Balyan and Mahendra Nath Pandey.
