Tamil Nadu govt releases list of public holidays for 2019

Even as 2019 fast approaches, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a list of public holidays for the new year. The year will see 23 public holidays, while 4 of these will fall on a weekend. While four holidays fall on the weekend (sorry, folks), 12 public holidays fall between Tuesday and Thursday, giving you a mid-week off.

Thiruvalluvar Day — January 16  — Wednesday

Uzhavar Thirunal — January 17 — Thursday

Republic Day — January 26 — Saturday

Annual closing of Accounts for Commercial Banks and Co-operative Banks — April 1 — Monday

Telugu New Year’s Day — April 6 —  Saturday

Tamil New Year’s Day and Dr B R Ambedkar’s birthday — April 14 — Sunday

Mahaveer Jayanthi — April 17  — Wednesday

Good Friday — April 19 — Friday

May Day — May 1 — Wednesday

Ramzan — June 5 — Wednesday

Bakrid — August 12 — Monday

Independence Day — August 15 — Thursday 

Krishna Jayanthi — August 23 — Friday

Vinayakar Chathurthi — September 2 — Monday

Muharram — September 10 — Tuesday

Gandhi Jayanthi — October 2 — Wednesday

Ayutha Pooja — October 7 — Monday

Vijaya Dasami — October 8 — Tuesday
