Following Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), the SRM Institute of Science and Technology has also cancelled their engineering entrance exams this year.

According to a press release issued by the institution, the SRM Joint Engineering Exam (SRMJEE) 2020 that was scheduled to be held across India in 127 cities and five centres in the Middle-East stands cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The admissions to the engineering programs in all campuses of the institute will now be held based on the marks earned by the students in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology in their class 12 board exams. “Those who scored in JEE Main and SAT are encouraged to apply,” the statement said.

SRMJEE 2020 was scheduled to be held from July 30 to August 4. The classes for first year students based on these admissions are scheduled to start from September, based on government norms and rules in effect at that point in time, the release added.

The forms for providing the marks earned in class 12 are available on the application window on the website. Clarifications on doubts regarding entrance examination or admissions can be obtained by calling the helpdesk at +91 (044) 27455510, 47437500 [Monday  – Saturday (except public holidays) 8.30 am to 6 pm] or through email at admissions.india@srmist.edu.in.

In 2019, SRMJEE was held between April 15-25 and around 2 lakh students had applied to take the examination.

A few days ago, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) had also announced cancellation of VITEEE 2020 due to logistical issues due to the restrictions imposed around the pandemic. CBSE has cancelled the remaining board exams for classes 10 and 12 while several states have also cancelled the examinations that are yet to be conducted. Some states have announced dates to conduct the remaining exams while some are yet to release the results of the exams already conducted.
