The recent floods in Chennai brought about by the freak rainfall did not spare even South Indian actress Keerthy Suresh’s house, which got submerged.

Recounting the harrowing experience on her Facebook account, the actress posted a picture of her inundated house along with a description of what happened on Wednesday.

She says that the water gushed in from all directions and was thigh-high inside the house, recalling the situation faced by her and her family as indescribable.

To compound matters, she says, “Scheduled for a surgery the next day, my grandmother was admitted at the MIOT hospital with my mom alone being a bystander, who was strictly restricted to take any food of any sort and denied the permission to have an extra bystander to take turns. Thus my uncle and granduncle had to return home.”

After reaching home, their ordeal really started as the water soon rose up to knee-level while they scampered to secure their belongings and soon the power went.

She adds, “With the few hours of inverter power left, we gathered some food, clothes, whatever possible & left upstairs. Pitch dark upstairs, we settled down with candlelights. 2 days we were stuck in our house; it was an island.”

She further says, “From our terrace we could see hundreds of people walking over the water to reach the metro nearby our house. It was sad to watch a mother carrying an infant, kids riding on the back of adults, elderly people walking carefully with walking stick. Never felt so helpless like this before.”

Her grandmother had a providential escape as she left the MIOT hospital one day before tragedy struck, when 18 people died as a result of power and oxygen supply allegedly snapping, due to the deluge.

Keerthi appeared as a child actress in the early 2000s before debuting as a full-fledged heroine in the 2013 Malayalam film Geethanjali directed by Priyadarshan.
