Several films have opted to skip theatrical release and have chosen the OTT route in view of the pandemic- induced lockdown in the second wave of coronavirus. Actors Prithviraj and Aditi Balan starrer Cold Case is also among the long list of movies that will directly release on Over-the-top  (OTT) platform Amazon Prime Video on June 30. Sharing the news with fans, Amazon Prime Video, wrote on Thursday, “Murder, mystery, crime, and suspense… We are ready to be thrilled! Watch #ColdCaseOnPrime June 30.”

The announcement comes days after producer Anto Joseph announced that the movie will be skipping theatrical release due to the pandemic. In a letter to Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK), Anto Joseph announced that two of the most-anticipated Mollywood movies that he is bankrolling, Prithviraj’s Cold Case and Fahadh Faasil’s Malik will be streaming on OTT since the films will be able to recover production costs only if 100% occupancy is permitted in theatres. Given that there is no assurance that the restrictions would be removed once the lockdown is lifted, production houses might face economic hurdles. Anto also mentioned in the statement that he is facing a financial crunch.

Cold Case marks the directorial debut of cinematographer Tanu Balak. Set in Thiruvananthapuram, Prithviraj essays the role of a cop named Sathyajith in the film. Touted to be an investigative thriller, Cold Case is jointly produced by Anto Joseph, Jomon T John and Shameer Muhammed. Apart from Prithviraj and Aditi, the cast also includes actors Lakshmi Priyaa, Chandramouli, Anil Nedumangad, Suchitra Pillai, Athmeeya Rajan, Gibin Gopinath, and Pooja Mohanraj in pivotal roles. The production of the film reportedly commenced in November 2020. Actor Prithviraj shared several behind-the-scene photos from the sets of the movie on social media.

Meanwhile, political drama Malik stars actors Fahadh, Biju Menon, Nimisha Sajayan, Joju George, Dileesh Pothan and Vinay Forrt in pivotal roles. Further details about the OTT release of Malik are awaited.
