Following the death of four people at AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa’s rallies, PMK president G K Mani has sent a letter to NHRC blaming Jayalalithaa for five deaths and asking to file a complaint against her.

In a statement released on Tuesday GK Mani said, “At Virudhachalam (Cuddalore District) people were forced to assemble and were threatened to attend the public meeting as early as 11am in scorching heat (104 degree Fahrenheit) for the introduction of AIADMK candidates which starts at 3pm. People were forced to sit till 4pm with serious hardships.”

Moreover, Karunakaran David and Radha Krishnan lost their lives as no first aid was provided immediately to them, he alleged.

He said that similar instances took place Aruppukottai (Virudhunagar) and Mududanchavadi (Salem).

He alleged that the party bribed the people to attend the rally. He said that in Madudanchavadi, people were brought in from various districts by paying Rs 300 and a day wage under MNREGA.

Mani added that district collectors had warned public not to venture out between 11am to 4pm.

Stating the extreme conditions, he said, “People were made to stand under the sun without drinking water and other basic facilities and treated like animals and cattle leading to loss of innocent lives because of heat and stampede,” he said.

He said that this not only violates the basic and fundamental human rights but also acts as the reason behind the loss of innocent lives and a complaint should be registered against Jayalalithaa.
