A person working in the Kodanadu Estate belonging to late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa was found dead on Monday.

Dinesh Kumar, who used to work as an assistant in the computer section, was found hanging at his house.

Investigating officer Murali Rambha told TNM that investigations have revealed that Dinesh had committed suicide. “He had a surgery 20 days ago and he could not bear the pain and committed suicide by hanging himself. He hails from Nadugetti and the post-mortem in the case is complete. He died around 10am on Monday.”

Dinesh had been working in the computer section of the estate for the last four or five years, and he was unable to work for the last 20 days due to the surgery, added the officer.

Dinesh’s death comes months after a burglary at the estate and two deaths in its aftermath had brought the estate into public attention.

On April 24, a security guard was murdered when a group of men burgled the estate. The burglary took place at around 1.30am, and resulted in the murder of 51-year-old Om Bahadur, a security guard. The gang also severely assaulted another 27-year-old guard, Krishna Bahadur, at the gate of the estate.

Subsequently, two men suspected of involvement in the killing of the security guard met with separate road accidents, leading to the death of one of them.  Kanagaraj, who was once Jayalalithaa’s driver died in a road accident near Attur on April 28.

On the same day, Sayan, who was also said to be part of the group which allegedly murdered the security guard, met with an accident on the way to Palakkad. His wife and daughter were both killed in the accident, but Sayan survived and was later shifted to the Coimbatore Central prison.

Police have arrested seven people in relation to the burglary, of which three alleged associates of Kanagaraj are from Thrissur.
