The Madras High Court has given the Kanchipuram police a three-month deadline to finish investigation and file the final report in a case filed by Nadigar Sangam General Secretary Vishal Krishna in 2017. The court has pointed out lack of progress in the case that pertains to fraudulent sale of land belonging to the Nadigar Sangam in 2006 and has ordered immediate enquiry of the accused, including actors Radha Ravi and Sarathkumar who were formerly office-bearers of the actors’ association.

According to the complaint filed by Vishal, Radha Ravi allegedly colluded with other office-bearers including Sarathkumar, KR Selvaraj and MNK Natesan, to sell 26 cents of land owned by the association at Vedamangalam village in Kanchipuram district. They allegedly created forged documents to execute a general power of attorney in favour of the buyer and then sold property to third parties through him. The entire process was carried out, according to the petitioner, without the knowledge of other members of the association. The price at which the property was sold remains unknown, but the issue came to light in 2016 when the old team was voted out. Show cause notices were sent to the accused and when there was no satisfactory reply, a police complaint was filed in September 2017.

Vishal had alleged that the Kanchipuram police were initially hesitant to file an FIR and approached the Madras High Court in 2018 first, asking for a directive regarding the same. Following this a case was filed under sections 465, 468, 471, 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal code. Despite this, however, lack of progress in the probe forced the association to request a change in the investigating authority.

Acknowledging the truth in the complainant’s petition, the court said, “Even after registering the FIR, the 2nd respondent police did not proceed with the investigation of the case and neither arrested the accused persons nor conducted further investigation against them till date. Therefore, the petitioner filed this petition and sought for transfer of investigation. Considering the fact and circumstances the 2nd respondent is directed to secure the accused persons and conduct the enquiry and file a final report in Crime no.26 of 2018 within the period from three months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order. The 1st respondent is also directed to monitor the investigation done by the 2nd respondent and also ensure that the 2nd respondent shall complete the investigation within a period stipulated by this court.”
