Former Congressman and TMC leader GK Vasan has not had it easy in these elections. After much speculation about an alliance with AIADMK, it was reported that Jayalalithaa was not willing to accommodate him on his terms, and he was forced to join the PWF-DMDK alliance. He has not even taken a party ticket for himself, perhaps unsure about his own victory. But mock GK Vasan for all you want, his manifesto has a meaningful promise on political accountability.
It promises to enact a legislation to accord rights to the citizens to move to the court if electoral promises of the political parties are not worked out.
GK Vasan said that such laws should be enacted to give rights to the people to approach the courts to get the promises fulfilled. He added, “This is unique aspect of our manifesto. When our coalition government is formed in Tamil Nadu we will strive for this,” he said.
TMC has also made promises of prohibition and also provide alternative employment opportunities for TASMAC employees. They also said that prohibition will be carried out in a phased manner.
The manifesto also focuses on revival of the legislative council, banning GAIL and methan prohects and free supply of agricultural inputs, according to The New Indian Express.
