Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said on Tuesday, March 15 that a mega book park will be set up in the state. He made the announcement after presenting the state government awards to Tamil scholars and social workers at a programme in Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. The government will provide the land in consultation with Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).
Stalin said that his late father, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had conceived the idea of a mega book park but due to several reasons, it did not materialise. He said that the mega book park would be a platform for booksellers, printers, publishers, authors, and writers. He said the book park will be an area for all cultural and literary discussions in the future, and globally recognised publishers will set up stalls in the book park. He said that almost all the new books will be present in the park and that the government would extend all the necessary support for the park by all means.
The Chief Minister said that globally renowned book publishers would establish their units in the mega book park. The book park would provide a platform for exchanging ideas and will be an arena for cultural and literary discussions in the future, he further said.
Chief Minister Stalin awarded 21 scholars including Justice K Chandru and Tamil orator and speaker Bharathi Baskar. CM expressed his happiness and urged the scholars to contribute more to the Tamil language and state. By facilitating this programme, he mentioned that the state takes the pride for honouring the great Tamil scholars while they are alive.
