The Madras High Court on Monday sought a CBI probe on the seizure of Rs 570 crore from three trucks on May 13 at Tirupur district in Tamil Nadu.

This comes after DMK’s TKS Elangovan sought a CBI probe alleging that the trucks had bogus registration numbers and the cash was claimed by State Bank of India while the currency bundles had Axis Bank seal.

DMK alleged that the officials had conspired together and created fake documents to claim the money belonged to State Bank of India.

On the wee hours of May 13 three trucks containing Rs 570 crores were intercepted and caught at the Tirupur highway by a flying squad constituted to keep a check on unaccounted cash flow in Tamil Nadu.

On the following day, State Bank of India issued a statement that it was the bank's legitimate cash and its officials were ferrying Rs 570 crore after the RBI asked them to address a temporary cash shortage in Andhr Andhra Pradesh.
