The Kerala police probing the sensational Koodathayi serial murder case which jolted the state, on Saturday registered the arrest of Jolly Amma Joseph in the death of two-year-old Alphine, her present husband Shaju’s and his former wife Cily’s daughter.

With this, Jolly has now been arrested for three deaths in the serial murder case. Jolly was already charged with murder in the death of her husband Roy Thomas, Cily – her present husband Shaju’s former wife – and now, for Alphine’s death. Jolly is also alleged to be behind the murders of Roy’s parents – Tom Thomas and Annamma – and his maternal uncle Mathew Manjadiyil.

Talking to TNM, Kozhikode rural SP KG Simon said that Jolly’s arrest was registered on Saturday for Alphine’s death, after seeking permission from a Koyilandy court. According to reports, Jolly had earlier given statement to investigating officials that she gave poison to the child.

“Jolly was presented before court and has now been remanded in judicial custody,” said KG Simon.

The two-year-old Alphine died in 2014 after choking soon after she ate something. Alphine’s was the fifth among the six deaths. It has been alleged that Jolly gave poison to the child during a family event. Supporting the allegation, Alphine’s elder teenage brother recently gave statement to police saying that he had seen Jolly passing bread to feed Alphine. The child’s mother Cily passed away in 2016, two years after Alphine’s death.

Meanwhile, the rural SP also told TNM that Mathew, who had been arrested for the alleged murder of Roy Thomas, will soon be arrested for the death of Cily too. Mathew is the person who reportedly gave cyanide to Jolly, which she allegedly used to poison her victims.

Reportedly, the investigating officials have also recovered the gold ornaments of Cily which Jolly had handed over to her friend Johnson.

Johnson, who was questioned by the police on Friday, handed over the gold ornaments to police. Reportedly, Jolly had handed this over to Johnson for pawning.
