The Kevin Joseph murder saw another twist with Neenu’s – Kevin’s wife – father moving the court, seeking to shift her to a shelter home. Kevin was abducted by Neenu’s kin and was later found dead.

Chacko is the fifth accused in the Kevin murder case while his son Shanu Chacko is the prime accused. Both of them had surrendered and at present are in judicial custody.

Chacko moved his petition with the Judicial First Class Magistrate Ettumanur in Kottayam through a lawyer.

"My daughter Neenu has mental health issues, she was being treated by Dr Vrinda of Ananthapuri Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. She is now living in a stranger’s house and not receiving her treatment. Since I have been under judicial custody, I am not able to provide her proper treatment or protection," the petition says.

"Therefore the court may take action to shift my daughter to a shelter home,” it says.

Meanwhile Neenu’s mother Rehna on Wednesday moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. She has been absconding after Kevin was found dead on May 28.

The 'stranger’s home' that Chacko mentions in his petition is Kevin’s house in Kottayam. After his dead body was recovered from a canal in Chaliyekkara in Kollam district, a shattered Neenu moved in with his parents, Rajan alias Joseph and Omana Mary.

Neenu’s family had opposed her relationship with Kevin who was from a poor Dalit Christian family from Nattesseri in Kottayam. While Neenu’s father is a Latin Catholic, her mother is a Muslim.

They registered their wedding two days before Kevin was abducted. After the registration, Neenu, a graduate student of Geology and Water Management at the BK College in Amalagiri in Kottayam, continued staying at her hostel. Though her parents had filed a missing complaint at the Gandhi Nagar police station, she was firm that she would go with Kevin.

Kevin and his relative Aneesh were kidnapped from Kevin’s maternal grandparents’ home at Mannanam in Kottayam in the wee hours of May 27. He was found dead in a canal at Chaliyekkara near Thenmala in Kollam a day later.
