DMK president M Karunanidhi will be contesting the elections for the second time from Tiruvarur constituency as it is close to Tirukuvalai where he was born, according to Times of India.

He contested from Tiruvarur for the first time in 2011.

The process of filing nominations will begin on April 22. He will file his nomination and begin his campaigning soon after that. A van has been customized for Karunanidhi who is wheelchair bound.

He has an extensive tour schedule and will be conducting meetings in many constituencies.

A senior DMK leader told TOI, “Thalaivar (as Karunanidhi is called by his partymen) will file his nomination in Tiruvarur and from there he will tour all other districts. He will come back to Tiruvarur and is expected to spend two or three days in his native place before returning to Chennai.”

In 2011 elections, Karunanidhi had the highest winning margin of his political career with more than 50,000 votes.

A DMK leader said that the party leaders asked him not to travel due to his age but he refused and wanted to conduct the campaign.

Karunanidhi has never lost an election since 1957.
