Actor Sathyaraj’s video expressing regret over his remarks made during Cauvery protests nine years ago has earned him appreciation and flak from various quarters.

While his colleague Kamal Haasan took to Twitter to praise the Baahubali actor, BJP national secretary H Raja criticized both Kamal Haasan and Sathyaraj’s Tamil sentiment, calling their love for Tamils as superficial.

He tweeted on Saturday, “Whether it is Kamal or Sathyaraj they are bothered only about money. Their love for Tamil and their Tamil sentiment is only skin deep.”

He also alleged that, “Will heaven fall if it (Baahubali) is not screened in Karnataka? Apologising to Vatal Nagaraj is self-respect less act done for money.”

Raja’s comments come a day after Sathyaraj released a video saying that he had nothing against Kannadigas and the movie makers should not be punished for his speech nine years ago. Pro-Kannada groups had threatened to block the release of SS Rajamouli’s blockbuster Baahulbali 2 over Sathyaraj’s comments made several years ago. The comment was made during a protest organized by the Tamil film industry as tensions between people in the two states had reached a peak over the Cauvery issue.

“I would like to express regret for the statement that I had made nine years back, and would like to say that I am a small worker in Baahubali film and my comment should not affect the film," Sathyaraj said.

On Saturday morning, actor Kamal Haasan had congratulated Sathyaraj. “Congrats Mr. Sathyaraj for maintaining rationality in a troubled environment,” Kamal said.

Kamal Haasan too is in the midst of a controversy and received summons from a court in Tirunelveli for his comments on Mahabharata. Members of Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) had filed a petition against the actor last month.

The HMK member had said that the actor was "anti-Hindu" and said his comments had hurt their religious sentiments.
