Actor turned politician Kamal Haasan visited Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday at Bolgatty Palace in Kochi.

Kamal told the media after the meeting that the visit was to invite the Kerala CM for a function of his political party ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam'.

“The function is to be held in Coimbatore. The date hasn’t been finalised, as I have asked for a convenient date from him,” Kamal told the media.

When asked if there was any plan to form the Kerala unit of the party in a tie-up with the CPI(M), Kamal said, “My party is not that old to get into such things.

“We respect what he (Pinarayi) as a Chief Minister has done. We will shamelessly imitate all the good things he has done. Watching from Tamil Nadu, we see that good work has been done in Kerala,” he said.

Pinarayi Vijayan was in Bolgatty Palace to attend a function. Former MP and CPI(M) Ernakulam district secretary P Rajeev was also present at the meeting.

On the election drama in Karnataka, he said, “I had tweeted that the light of democracy shines and let it shine through the country.”

Kamal has always shown affinity to the CPI(M)-led Left rule in the state and spoken about it with admiration.

In September last year, during Onam, Kamal had met Pinarayi in Thiruvananthapuram. At that time Kamal had not made his entry into politics.  "I had been taking advice from the Kerala CM about it (political entry)," he had said.

"My admiration for him is not blind, it is a sensible one. Doesn't matter if he is Left, Right or Centre, there are Western standards of living here," Kamal had said, praising Pinarayi. Kamal had also interviewed the Kerala CM for Asianet, as part of the channel's Onam telecast.

Kamal floated his political party ‘Makkal Needhi Maiam’ in February this year.
