In a bid to immortalize former President of India and ISRO veteran, the late APJ Abdul Kalam, the Consortium of Journalists in India has requested the Tamil Nadu government to rename the arterial East Coast Road in Tamil Nadu after the president.

To commemorate the life of the ‘people’s President’, CJI also organized a tribute to him at the Marina beach recently.

The CJI successfully organised a unique “Musical Tribute” to the former President. At least 150 musicians, playing Nathaswaran and Thavil, performed the tribute to Kalam.

"The Ennore part was named after Kamraj a few years ago when it was inaugurated. So we think the Chennai port should be renamed," said A Selvaraj, General Secretary.

Dr. P Jothimani, Judiciary Member of the National Green Tribunal Board, Dr. V Ponraj, Abdul Kalam’s personal secretary, Mr. V. Balakrishnan, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mylapore, Chennai city police, veteran music director Gangai Amaran, veteran director Kasturi Raja, Tamil film actor Chinni Jayanth, and others participated at the programme.

At the event, the CJI officially requested the TN government to rename the East Coast Road from Chennai to Rameshwaram after Kalam. They also requested the Central government to rename the Chennai Port Trust after Kalam.
