Airline major Jet Airways had to cut a sorry figure on Monday after a Chennai resident posted a video of its staff polluting a water body on social media. Jet airways employees were caught on camera disposing non-biodegradable waste into the Pallavaram lake.

The video was reportedly recorded by Dharmar Manoharan who was riding on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam radial road around 2.30 pm on Satuday. The video shows a van in Jet airways colours parked by the lake. Several wooden planks, plastic, trash bags and oil containers were being removed from the van and being placed on bed of the lake.

The resident shooting the video demanded to know what the staff are doing and asked them to clean the area. "How can you dump trash here? You belong to such a big company and you are doing this at a public place in broad daylight. How can you throw garbage into a water body? You thought nobody will ask?" he asked.

The staff however remained non-committal, avoiding even looking at the camera. Some of them can be seen re-loading the garbage bags into the vehicle again.

Jet Airways on its part, issued a statement, absolving itself from any responsibility.

According to reports, three contract employees of the airline arrived in a pickup truck to scout the site. But they did not remove any waste as they claimed that Jet airways staff had not dumped it.
