Jayalalithaa’s 300cr Pongal bonanza: Here is what you will find in govt’s gift hampers

As the grand celebrations of Pongal are about to begin in few days, the Tamil Nadu government led by CM Jayalalithaa has announced a Pongal Gift Hamper for the people of the state.

According to a government press release, nearly 2 crore families are to be benefitted from this gift hamper. The government will have additional expenditure of Rs. 318 crore because of this hamper.

So what’s there in this gift hamper? Here’s a list.

The box will have,

• One kilogram of rice
• One kilogram of sugar
• Two feet sugarcane piece
• Cash of Rs. 100 in hand   

These hampers can only be collected by:

•  Those who receive rice through the Public Distribution System
• Lankan Tamil refugees in camps 
• Police personnel with ration cards
