The News Minute | January 26, 2015 | 12.20 pm ISTWho was the surprise visitor at the Tamil Nadu Republic Day event? While US President Obama was kept occupied with India’s show of diversity at its 66th Republic Day ceremony in New Delhi , states too were not far behind in celebrations to mark the day.Presided over by governor K Rosaiah , the Republic Day in Tamil Nadu was celebrated in Chennai at the Marina beach.Rosaiah unfurled the national flag on Monday morning and also took the the salute from the three wings of armed forces apart from other security forces. However, while the ruling government was represented by Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his ministers, the state’s former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa very well made up for her absence at the event by being the face on almost all of the tableaus used at the ceremony. Each of the tableaus that were displayed at the ceremony in Chennai prominently displayed pictures of the AIADMK chief. The TN Department of Tourism, Agriculture, Cooperation, Police and, Health and Family Welfare and Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises were some of the 24 floats that featured at the ceremony. Even though the Tamil Nadu tableau didn't feature amongst those presented at the national capital event in Rajgath, these tableaus have more than made up for the ex-CM’s absence.Jayalalithaa’s name and face, has remained the face of the ruling AIADMK government despite her disqualification and conviction in a Rs. 66 crore disproportionate assets case. From Amma water to mandatory public social messages displayed during movies, the AIADMK-lead government continues to behave as if Jayalalithaa was still at the helm of affairs.TweetFollow @thenewsminute
