The News Minute | February 26, 2015 | 09.20 am ISTHow did the investigating authorities arrive at the figure of Rs. 66.65 crore of wealth disproportionate to known sources of income against AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa?This is the question Justice C R Kumaraswamy asked Special Public Prosecutor Bhavani Singh at the Karnataka High Court, reported PTI. "I want to know how did the investigating authorities arrive at a conclusion that A-1 (Jayalalithaa) had accumulated Rs 66.65 crore of wealth disproportionate to known sources of income," Justice C R Kumaraswamy said.The judge also asked Singh why the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act , 1988 was not invoked against the accused in the case. "Why did the investigating authorities not invoke provisions under the Benami Act in the charge sheet against the accused when it was included in the FIR?" he added. After the Supreme Court directed the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court to decided on Jayalalithaa's appeal against her conviction, the judge is chairing a special bench. TweetFollow @thenewsminute
