In a shocking turn of events, the mother of Dhashvanth, the man accused of sexual assault and murder of Chennai girl Hasini, was bludgeoned to death at her residence in Kundrathur in Chennai on Saturday. Police officials told TNM that they received a call around 3.30pm informing them that Dhasvanth's mother, 45-year-old Sarala, was found dead.

Police say that jewellery was also missing from her home. Police officers also confirmed that 23-year-old Dhashvanth was missing and could not be traced immediately.

“An FIR has been filed in the case.  We are not drawing any conclusions, but it is true that the jewellery is missing, and so is Dhasvanth,” Deputy Commissioner of Ambattur Sarvesh told TNM.

Dhashvanth has been out on bail in the Hasini case since September. He procured bail on a technical ground after his father went to court claiming that the Chennai police cannot impose Goondas Act on him. In February this year, 7-year-old Hasini was found murdered and Dhasvanth was suspected of sexually assaulting her and then killing her.

Two weeks ago, Hasini’s father had told TNM that Dhashvanth had repeatedly threatened him inside and outside the court premises. At both occasions Dhasvanth threatened Hasini’s father not to appear in court, and said that if he did, Dhasvanth would kill his son.

Hasini's father had told TNM that initially Dashwanth's family too had threatened him. Hasini’s father has repeatedly pleaded for Dhasvanth’s bail to be cancelled but that has not happened.
