Thiruvannamalai collector K Kandasamy had a narrow escape from a three-member gang who tried to attack him on Friday. Police found chilli powder, knives and a stolen two-wheeler from the gang, reported The New Indian Express

The three people arrested are Manikanda (30) from Tiruporur, Siva (28) and Santhosh (27) from Kandigaii village in Kanchipuram. They told police that they were working for a private company in Chennai.

They reportedly told police that they came to Villupuram to attend a relative’s wedding and then came to Thiruvannamalai to meet other relatives. But, they had a fight with a man in a TASMAC bar and wanted to kill him. They mistook collector to be that person as he was also wearing a blue colour shirt, they told police. However, police told TNIE that they did not accept their explanation as they had crossed collector’s entrance gate with knives and chilli powder.

Around 2pm on Friday, the collector was walking towards his bungalow with his personal clerk and assistant for lunch. When three people on two-wheeler stopped collector, and pushed him on the ground. The personal clerk and assistant raised an alarm, police from the bungalow immediately came to the spot and arrested the three people. However, collector was not injured in the incident, reported TNIE.

The gang was arrested and put under preventive custody as the collector did not file any complaint regarding the attack. Police charged them under 7(1) of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act and sent them to judicial custody.

Police seized chilli powder, a two-wheeler with fake registration and knives from them. Moreover, police found that all the three were in inebriated state and were taken to Thiruvannamalai East police station.
