The exit polls done by media channels along with agencies were made public on Sunday evening after the conclusion of the last phase of Lok Sabha elections. Almost all exit polls have predicted that the AIADMK would win less than 10 seats in Tamil Nadu. Speaking to reporters outside Salem Airport, TN Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy has said that the exit polls by media houses have been inaccurate in the past and that this time too the AIADMK's win would prove them wrong.

“In 2016 they had said that in Salem, AIADMK had chances of winning only in 3 assemblies. They also said that I would fail. The results, however, saw me winning with the highest difference of 42,000 votes in the constituency. Moreover, we didn’t win in just 3 but in all 10 Salem assembly constituencies. These are not karuthu kanipu (opinion polls) but ‘karuthu thinipu’ (opinions forced).”

He also added that on May 23rd, when the results are made public, people will know if the exit polls have got it right this time. “We will win in all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and also in all the 22 assembly constituencies,” he emphasised.

DMK leader MK Stalin on the other hand expressed that DMK has never taken exit polls done by media houses into serious consideration. “Thalaivar Kalaingar has told us many times. We do not consider any predictions made my media seriously, even if they favour our win. We only await people’s judgement which we will know on the 23rd,” he said adding that he would make further comments after election results.

AMMK leader and RK Nagar MLA, TTV Dhinakaran issued a statement calling the exit polls a trickery. Referring to the exit polls done by Thanthi TV, the letter reads, “They’ve said a particular party in Kancheepuram constituency is expected to receive a maximum of 6% vote share, ie approximately 60,000 votes. The truth is that the party never contested from that constituency in the elections. Isn’t this a scam?”

The party that TTV is referring to is Kamal’s Makkal Needhi Maiam that did not contest from Kancheepuram. Thanthi Channel however had predicted 3-6% vote share for the party.

The letter ends by stating that Mamata Banerjee’s opinion that, “I don’t trust Exit Poll gossip. The game plan is to manipulate or replace thousands of EVMs through this gossip.” cannot be ignored.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko who joined forces with DMK this election is of the opinion that in all 22 assembly bye-polls, DMK lead alliance would sweep. “My guess is that Congress and state parties alliance will form the government in the centre. Exit polls by media houses have come true in the past sometimes and they have been proven wrong as well. We will know the truth in two days,” he answered.

KS Alagiri, President of Tamil Nadu Congress is firm that PM Modi will not form a government in the centre once again. “No chances of Modi forming a Government in the centre. Similarly in all the 38 Lok Sabha constituencies from TN, approximately in 37 our alliance will win. Yesterday, in the exit poll done by NewsX channel they had predicted 242 seats for BJP. In News 18 the numbers for BJP were 336. Ideally the difference in such polls should be plus or minus 5 seats. How can it be 100? How can it vary so much? How can it become a poll then?” he asked.
