The Chennai police have arrested a 45-year-old man for stalking and harassing a girl. According to a news report in The Hindu, the accused, R Ganesan, was an army man and has been working as a security guard in a medical college hostel in KK Nagar since 2012.

The 21-year-old woman, a fourth-year medical student, lives in the hostel where the accused used to work. According to the police, Ganesan, who is from Aruppukottai, had proposed to the woman earlier this year. She had informed this to the dean of her college, which resulted in the termination of Ganesan from his job.

On November 20, she received a letter from Ganesan informing her about his intention to marry her. The letter also stated that Ganesan would come in person to discuss the proposal. The student informed her father about the incident and also alerted the police when Ganesan came to visit her.

The police arrested Ganesan and registered a case under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Women Harassment Act. He was later remanded to judicial custody.
