An elderly woman was found murdered in Chennai on Thursday evening. The police retrieved her body from a sack that was thrown near a canal close to her residence in Avadi.

Veliyammal, the deceased, had been missing from her residence since Tuesday. Murgesan, inspector of the Avadi police station confirmed the murder and said that the body was found by the elderly woman’s daughter around 4pm on Thursday.

He added that some jewellery from the house had gone missing and that the police were looking at a few suspects in the case. The case is still under enquiry and more details could not be given, he added.

On November 2, 2016, a 58-year-old advocate was found stabbed at her apartment in West Mambalam.  P Lakshmi Sudha had around 10 stab injuries on her back. She had been living alone for the last 25 years after separating from her husband.  

Two days before the murder of the advocate, a 60-year-old woman was found murdered in her house in Chennai’s posh T Nagar on Monday. She has been living alone for the last 30 years.
