An elderly woman was found dead at IIT Madras in Chennai on Sunday. The police, however, are yet to establish the identity of the deceased.

Initial reports suggest that the body was found behind the Brahmaputra Hostel on April 30.

Speaking to The News Minute, officials at the Kotturpuram Police Station said that they are still awaiting the post-mortem report from doctors at Royapettah Government Hospital but have ruled out any foul play into the incident as of now.

Police officials say that the body was found in a decomposed state. “She may have died three days before we found her body. The security guard informed us about the dead body. The body was in unrecognisable condition," an officer told TNM.

Inspector Dhanraj at the Kottpurapuram station said they suspect that the cause of death is dehydration. “It is a natural death. The post-mortem has been conducted on her body. She is an aged woman. No one has come forward to identify her," he noted.

Chennai has witnessed an usually hot and humid summer, experiencing a heatwave in April, with temperature touching 40 degrees Celsius on many days.

Incidentally, Sunday was the second hottest day in the last 20 years in the city of Chennai for the month of April.
