Popular Tamil actor, singer and producer Dhanush will soon make his foray into the Kannada film industry. The actor-producer, who is currently producing the Malayalam film Tharangam starring actor Tovino Thomas in the lead role, has now set his eyes on the Sandalwood industry as well.

Though there is no official word on it as of now, the film is currently in its pre-production phase and is slated to go on the floors by the end of summer.

To be directed by debutante Islauddin, the movie is rumoured to be a remake of Tamil blockbuster Nanum Rowdydhan, which starred Vijay Sethupathy and Nayanthara in the lead roles.

Dhanush will produce the film under his banner Wunderbar Films. The film will be co-produced by Jacob Verghese, the director of superhit films Savaari and Prithvi. Jacob is also the distributor of Dhanush’s Tamil films in Karnataka.

Rishi of Operation Alamelamma fame has reportedly been roped in to play the lead role in the yet-to-be named Kannada film.

Rishi made his debut as an actor with Operation Alamelamma earlier this year and the film went on to become a big hit. Directed by Suni, the film had Rishi and Shraddha Srinath playing the lead roles. Bankrolled by Amrej Suryavanshi and Suni under the banners Suni Cinemas and StarFab, the film was made on a budget of Rs 1.5 crore and went on to collect Rs 10 crore at the box office.

Meanwhile, Dhanush is concentrating on a slew of films including Maari 2 directed by Balaji Mohan, Enai Noki Paayum Thota by Gautham Menon, Vada Chennai by Vetrimaran and his Hollywood debut The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir. With the foray into producing a Kannada movie, Dhanush will be setting his foot in all the four south Indian film industries.
