A day after the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president EVKS Elangovan submitted his resignation, the Delhi command accepted his resignation on Sunday.

Sources in Congress confirmed that the general secretary of the AICC, Mukul Wasnik informed Elangovan over phone that his resignation was accepted on Sunday evening, according to The New Indian Express .

According to media reports, the Congress leader took moral responsibility for the party’s defeat in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and hence resigned from his post on Saturday.

Moreover, on June 15 when Elangovan visited Delhi, he had offered resignation but it was put on hold as the party’s vice president Rahul Gandhi was on a foreign tour.

After the 2011 election debacle, the TNCC president KV Thangabalu had offered his resignation owning party’s defeat with just five out of 63 seats. But then, the high command has asked him to continue till the local body elections.

On Sunday morning, Elangovan’s supporters met him at his residence at Manapakkam asking him to withdraw his resignation.
