In a shocking incident, a six-year-old boy was strangled, burnt and dumped in a septic tank by his mother in Chennai. The 27-year-old woman allegedly committed the crime after she came to her mother’s house following an argument with her husband. The incident happened on Thursday in Karayanchavadi near Poonamallee.
Meenakshi and Saravanan married seven years ago against the wishes of her parents and moved to Saravanan’s hometown of Krishnagiri. The couple had a six-year-old son, Srikanth. The couple had frequent fights and Meenakshi would go to her parents’ house in Poonamallee with her son whenever they fought. After her father passed away a few years ago, Meenakshi’s younger brother and sister were living with her mother.
According to a news report, on Thursday when Meenakshi reached her parents’ house after a fight, her family refused to take her in, because of which she was forced to spend the night in the motor room behind her house with her son. In the morning, her family found Meenakshi missing and also noticed a foul, burnt smell emanating from the septic tank. They alerted the police, who opened the tank and discovered Srikanth’s body, his face completely charred. His body was recovered and sent to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy.
Meenakshi returned later with a shaven head and confessed to the police that she had killed the boy. Reports said Meenakshi told the police that she had strangled her son while he was sleeping, burnt him with kerosene and dumped his body inside the septic tank. She was reportedly upset that her family was not supportive of her. She had also planned to end her life after she killed her son but got nervous and gave up on it. After killing the boy, she went to Mangadu temple to pray and then came back to surrender to the police.
The police have arrested Meenakshi and registered a case against her for murder.
