A school teacher of Lady Wellington Government Higher Secondary School was admitted to the Royapettah Hospital on Saturday, allegedly due to harassment by the headmistress of the school in Chennai.

An official from the school, who did not want to be named, told The News Minute, “The head mistress Shanthi was abusing Renuga on Saturday afternoon for going home at 5.30pm on Friday, after a meeting at the collector’s office, without coming back to the school. The school work timings are only till 5 pm, so why should she come back to school at 5.30 pm?”

Renuga is a Telugu teacher in the school. She reportedly collapsed after being harassed by the head mistress and was immediately taken to the Royapettah Government Hospital.

“The headmistress scolded the four teachers who accompanied her to the hospital. She also said that Renuga was pretending and did not say anything to comfort her,” said the official.

A police complaint has been filed at the Ice House police station in Triplicane.

The district education officer has also reached the school for an inquiry into the matter.

Currently, Renuga has been discharged from the hospital.
