In a gang war that turned ugly, a group of four men brutally hacked to death a 43-year-old real estate agent in broad daylight in West Mambalam on Tuesday morning, as per a report in The Times of India

The horrific crime occurred at 7.30am on Ellaiyamman Koil Street, when the realtor Kandhan, was taking his daughter Keerthana (20) to college on his scooter. The place is located just 500m from their house on Naickmar Street in West Mambalam.

His daughter sustained injuries when she tried to intervene and is undergoing treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

The assailants rained blows on Kandhan with sickles and made sure he was dead before leaving the spot.

Two of the attackers came on a bike while the other two came in an auto rickshaw.

According to investigators, a former business associate, Logo, (42), may have hatched the plot to murder Kandhan.

An investigating officer told ToI, ”Two men on a motorcycle, both wearing full-face helmets, and two of their accomplices in an auto rickshaw trapped Kandhan shortly after he and his daughter had left home. Ignoring the morning bustle in the locality, they launched a savage attack on the realtor. Passersby were too scared to intervene.”

"Keerthana, a second-year BCom student, tried to defend her father and was injured when a gang member attacked her. She is receiving treatment at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. We spoke with her and asked if she could identify any of the culprits.”

A case has been registered at the Kumaran Nagar police station.

Security camera footage from buildings near the vicinity of the crime scene has been obtained and investigators hope to nab the culprits soon.

Kandhan moved to his house in West Mambalam from Kannamapet four years ago.

He is survived by his wife Bhuvaneshwari and a son, Ramesh, besides his daughter.
